Climate change has become a global issue that affects various aspects of life, including the frequency and intensity of floods. Floods, as one of the most destructive natural disasters, have been further exacerbated by climate change. This phenomenon occurs due to a combination of increasing global temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, and melting polar ice. Rising global temperatures lead to higher evaporation, which produces more water vapor in the atmosphere. This process leads to an increase in the frequency of storms and heavy rain. In some areas, extreme rainfall can occur in a short period of time, resulting in flash floods. For example, areas that previously did not frequently experience flooding are now more vulnerable due to changes in weather patterns. In addition, melting ice in Greenland and Antarctica contributes directly to sea level rise. With sea levels rising, coastal areas are at high risk of flooding. Cities such as Jakarta and Miami face serious challenges, with tidal flooding becoming an increasingly frequent problem. Inadequate drainage systems can exacerbate these conditions, thereby increasing community vulnerability. Extreme rain does not only occur in tropical areas, but also in sub-tropical and temperate areas. Countries such as India and Bangladesh are experiencing major flooding after more intense monsoon rains. Flooding in these regions leads to widespread displacement and significant economic losses. Further investigation revealed that low-resource communities were most affected, thereby increasing social inequality. The impact of climate change on flooding also affects water quality. Rainwater that carries contaminants from the ground surface can pollute water sources. This is extremely dangerous for public health, given the increased risk of disease spread. In addition, infrastructure damaged by floods often means recovery takes at least longer, which can lead to a wider health crisis. In the agricultural sector, more frequent and intense flooding could destroy crop yields, causing food shortages and food inflation. Farmers who previously depended on stable weather patterns now have to adapt to constantly changing conditions. Adoption of sustainable agricultural practices is critical to reducing these impacts. Society must prepare and adapt to the new reality of climate change. Mitigation efforts and adaptation policies are needed to reduce vulnerability to flooding. This includes building more resilient infrastructure, restoring natural ecosystems such as mangroves and wetlands, and improving early warning systems.
